Wired Home Security

Wired network security?
yea…i have a wired home network, and i was wondering what are some programs or steps i should take to enforce security on my network. I already have virus software on all of the pc’s is that good enough or what other things should i have? Thanks
If you have set up a network at home, and you have the machines monitored, there are three suggestions I have:
1. Have a network duplicate set up to be able to immediately restart if your network is attacked. In other words, it is an exact replica of your network, with all current machine information on the server, but that is discrete from the net, and cannot be attacked. (When in doubt wipe it out….launch the secondary system)
2. Install some variety of firewall program. That means that in addition to the security of each machine, the network itself limits where people can go and what types of activities they can use the computers for.
Firewall programs are fairly cheap and user friendly and easy to set up from your server machine.
3. Remember that ANY activity on ANY computer on your network is a potential threat to the entire network, so teach your users about network rules and security.
If there are any doubts, try running a few programs in tandem to make sure any insidious threats are removed even if one system doesn’t catch it.
For example, using a combination of Norton Confidential, Norton Antivirus, SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware may cover a good number of the viruses and security attacks you may encounter, and though redundant, they are all good. Not to mention that the last two are free.
Another side of this can involved “ghosting” your machines, so that if any one of them is infected, you can simply disconnect it, wipe the drive and reinstall it on your network, so make sure you have a ghost image of what you want your pcs to ahve, and then make sure your users back up their data regularly.
