The Importance of Dead Bolt Locks
The Importance of Dead Bolt Locks
Many people, especially those who live in areas that are thought to be generally “safe,” live their daily lives without even thinking about the possibility that their home may get broken into. Some people feel so secure in their current situation that they don’t even lock their doors when they leave the house. The fact is, there is no such thing as a perfectly safe area, which is why no one should ever ignore the importance of having dead bolt locks on their doors.
While many people feel secure with standard doorknob locks (which can be found in just about every home in America), the fact of the matter is that this type of lock does not supply adequate protection against criminals who may try to break into your home. One reason is that these locks are incredibly easy to pick, even for the most amateur criminal around. All it takes is a small working knowledge of how to pick a lock and the intruder can come in at will. The wonderful thing about single and double dead bolt locks is that they are much more complex in structure and makeup than your everyday door locks, and are extremely hard to pick.
The other problem with normal locks is that if there is a window in your door, the intruder could easily just break the window and open the lock from the other side. It is not recommended, however, to have double dead bolt locks on your front door, in case of an emergency where you may need to escape.
