Keyless Deadbolt

What is the best door security with room renters?

I rent out rooms in a property I own and find it a pain to either change the Deadbolt Lock or garage code whenever a tenant moves out.

I’ve seen some keyless door locks that use fingerprint technology to allow access into the home. Just got the idea now, but was wondering if anyone else had any experience with these or could provide an alternative suggestion.

I agree about the cost to re-key! I do that every time I have a personnel change at work and it costs about $100!

I have no experience with fingerprinting key-less systems for locks, but I would think they would be very expensive and fragile. Imagine if someone got mad and slammed the door… The fingerprint readers I’ve seen (used in law enforcement) have glass surfaces and the surface has to be spotless in order to work!

Perhaps a coded keypad lock would work better for you. You could just change the code. My sister-in-law has one on her $2 million dollar house and she hasn’t had a problem with it. As for the garage door openers, I don’t know about the ones made nowadays, but my older model has a bunch of little switches in it. You “change the code” by matching the up and down switches (there are about 8 of them) in both the opener and the unit itself.

Kwikset combination lock?

I need to change the combination to my kwikset combination lock for my house, please tell me how! I can’t get it off the door and i dont have the owner’s manual

Hans Don Upance is correct, instructions are inside. The top cover comes off above the turning knob. You have to get in there anyway as the set buttons are in there. Sometimes you can just yank it off by hand, sometimes you need to pry. It is hooked at the top and snaps in at the bottom.
