Is a .22 rifle enough for home protection?
I’m not an avid shooter and the only gun I own is a .22 rifle I inherited from a family member. Should I feel comfortable with this for home protection? It fires reliably and has never jammed on me. I’ve been thinking about buying a used .40 cal handgun as an alternative, but I hate to pay for something I may never use. Thoughts?
A .22LR will kill, but it is a poor stopper. If you have to shoot you’ll end up shooting a lot to bring a determined attacker down with a .22. Your better off with almost anything else except a .25 ACP. As for hate to pay for something I may never use, do you have a first aid kit? Fire extinguisher? Smoke alarm? Auto insurance?
