Fire Alarm Training For An Installation Professional

By Michelle Bery

The importance of a properly installed fire alarm system is not to be overlooked. We, as consumers, understand the role of the fire alarm in our homes and subsequently we turn to alarm installation professionals to ensure that our fire alarms are properly installed and up to code. For those performing the installation, a special fire alarm training program is necessary in order to guarantee their expertise in this specialized industry.

Technicians who install fire alarm systems must participate in a fire alarm training program; in most cases a longer, introductory course is taken initially. Following this, a yearly course is offered in which technicians can brush up on their skills and learn about new fire codes that have been adopted. These brush-up courses are offered to those technicians who exclusively install fire alarms as well as those versed in a variety of alarm installations including security alarms.

Most often fire alarm training will include the fundamentals of fire alarm system plans wherein technicians examine the layout of the building and make a drawing that details the best location for fire alarms – as well as supplemental fire safety measures such as sprinkler systems. In addition, fire alarm training also requires technicians to efficiently install fire alarms with the attention given to wiring and fire codes.

A fire alarm technician is expected to install, connect, program, and test a fire alarm so that it passes fire inspection by authorities. Fire alarm training will ensure that the technician is up to the challenge by offering comprehensive classroom instruction with the use of accredited materials, followed by hands-on field instruction.

Fire alarm training is absolutely essential to having fire alarm technicians who can efficiently do their job. The end result will be homes, offices, and other buildings that include the utmost of fire safety measures.

Fire Safes

By Ralph Winn

You may have heard a lot about fire safes, but have you gone out and gotten one yet? There are many things in your home that you wouldn’t want to lose in the case of a fire. There are other things that are essential to life that you most certainly don’t want to have to replace, such as birth certificates, marriages license, financial statements, passports. Everyone needs to have a fire safe, and if you don’t, you might end up regretting that you never took the time to pick one out to protect some of the most valuable items.

I have been told that some fire safes used to be made with asbestos, though I’m not sure if those types of fire safes are available or legal. Some make sure you purchase a new fire safe to avoid the health hazards of asbestos.

Today, there are other materials they use to make fire safes, and if they say they will withstand a fire, you can be sure they will. However, if you have any doubts, you can always look them up online to see which ones others recommended.

There are many things you can put in fire safes, and the size you will need is strictly up to you. It’s possible that not only do you want to protect your personal papers; there are other things that you want to include that have value to you. May be you have tickets from a Broadway play that you attended on your anniversary and you never want to lose, favorite photos of family or friends who are know longer with you. Everyone has stuff like that and unless you have it in a safe deposit box at the bank, you need to look into fire safes so that you know you aren’t going to lose it if a disaster happens.

If your grown children don’t have a fire safe consider it a great gift to give. Also consider the individual who has everything or hard to buy for, this will be a gift to protect what’s so dear to them. You might want to ask someone close to them if they know if they have a fire safe before you go looking for one. You will be giving them the gift of security.

Personal Security

By Ralph Winn

It’s a fact that many crimes can be prevented by taking some extra security measures. It may be frightening to think about being the victim of a robbery or an assault, but it is dangerous to think that it can’t happen to you. No matter where you live, you should take precautions to keep your home and family safe. Here are some tips from the Home Security Store to help you stay safe:

Security in and around Your Home:

•Install quality deadbolts and locks on your doors.

•Don’t hide the key outside your home. Leave a spare key with a trusted neighbor or friend instead.

•Keep your doors and windows locked at all times, even if you are at home.

•Consider installing a burglar alarm if your home doesn’t already have one. Have it tested and/or upgraded regularly.

•Install a peephole in your door so you can see who is there before you open it.

•Look at your yard from a criminal’s point of view – trim bushes and shrubs that could be hiding places, and install exterior lighting to keep your home lit up at night.

Security with Young Children:

•Instruct children how to answer the phone. Remind them never to give out personal information to callers and that they should never tell someone that you are not home.

•Store all household cleaners, medicines, and sharp objects safely out of reach of children. Install safety latches on cabinets and drawers.

•If you have a swimming pool, NEVER let children swim alone. Consider putting up a locked gate to keep unsupervised kids out.

Financial Security:

•Don’t sign your credit cards. Instead, write “Ask for ID” on the back of all cards.

•Invest in a paper shredder. You should shred all documents, including junk mail, which have any personal information on them.

•Be cautious about any unsolicited mail or email claiming that you have won something. Many scams promise money or other “prizes” if you send personal information. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Security in an Emergency:

•Test all smoke alarms in your home regularly. You may want to install carbon monoxide alarms as well.

•Plan an escape route in case of a fire. Make sure everyone in your family knows where to go and what to do.

•Keep several flashlights around the house and check the batteries frequently.

•Make a list of emergency phone numbers, like poison control and the local police and fire departments, and keep it near the phone.

By David Patullo

It is important to ensure that your household is safe and risk-free. Taking measures to increase the effectiveness of your home security will go a long way towards improving your psychological state as well. Even if you happen to live in a neighborhood with a low crime rate, purchasing home security supplies and installing a valid security system in your home is highly recommended. When considering the different options available, you should try to build up some knowledge about the different kinds of home security supplies, and find something that suits your current lifestyle and schedule. There are many professionals available that can assist you in this matter, from home insurance salesmen to employees at security companies. These individuals should be able to provide you with useful counsel and advice on which home security supplies would be ideal for your situation. The Internet is also an excellent resource that can be consulted. There is a wealth of security-related information available to you at the click of a mouse.

Sometimes, the best home security supplies available are simple and effective, and do not even need to be hooked up to an electrical source. Displaying a sign on your window or door warning of the installation of a security system is known to be an effective psychological technique that deters potential burglars from making a decision to intrude upon your property. Of course, there are other methods which can be employed if a burglar has already entered your house.

Wireless alarm systems are regarded as being much more effective than conventional wired home security systems, as they are simpler to maintain and harder to intercept or shut down. They usually consist of a variety of alarm units which when set off will transmit a signal to the main alarm control device, triggering a resounding alarm that will shock and frighten away criminals in most cases.

Digital video surveillance is another method you could employ to safeguard your household. Home security supplies available in this department include mini cameras that are difficult to find, connected to remote servers that feed out video in real-time to private web pages that can be accessed by the home owner after entering a user ID and password.

Another useful item to be purchased for your home security supplies are smoke detectors. The installation of smoke detectors will help to ensure that if a fire breaks out somewhere on your property, it can be controlled. There are some smoke detectors that are hooked up to water tanks, and will trigger water sprinklers capable of extinguishing even large domestic fires. Other fire alarm systems and smoke detectors will notify the fire department immediately through a digital network, informing them of the location of your home and easy access points.

There are many different home security supplies that can be purchased at reasonable prices at a variety of different stores that specialize in the selling and installation of security systems. Take your time first, and conduct an in-depth research on the different products available, in order to find something that suits you.

Monitoring House Alarm System Basics

By Adriana Notton

A monitoring house alarm system is a security system that one can have installed in their own home or office, so as to give signal whenever a breach of security is happening within the secured vicinity. Systems such as these are there to help protect our belongings and even protect our homes from dangers that may happen, in one way or the other, through the use of this device.

Added to this is that the device has come a long way to actually help out in security fields such as within a banking sector that normally handles money that belongs to their customers. With the aid of this system or similar device, they are able to prevent the rate at which robbery activities are carried out.

Although you can install simple security systems in your own home, with little money being spent, you cannot install a system that is monitored. Instead, the system has to be installed by technicians that are fully trained to properly install the system. They should also be trained in the manner of finding and diagnosing problems and issues that can arise throughout the system either at the time of initial installation or later in time.

In addition, this device has found use in homes and other such buildings because of the enormous safety features that have proven themselves to be worth their weight in gold. Also, the extra features, like instant notification of events such as fire alarms, window alarms or any other type of unsecured activity, are the features that you just cannot live without.

In fact, these features, whether standard or extra, are the main selling points for those looking to buy a home security system. Live support is also another great feature that will have anyone feeling more secure by the minute. Most of these systems also include a special feature that many consumers practically demand and it has to do with the fire alarm functions.

If your system detects a fire danger it will sound the alarms as well as call out to the emergency helpline programmed into the system. These features will literally save your life so there is no excuse when choosing for safety. Furthermore, there are many monitoring companies that make use of the phone lines that come with the alarm system installation and they are specially designed for various purposes.

Those companies have complex computer systems and staff personnel that are trained to watch over and effectively monitor the home security systems. They also must report any incidence that is found to be due to a faulty alarm system to their employers so that repairs can be made in a quick and efficient manner.

There are monthly fees for this type of service that are issued by monitoring companies. The fact that quality and experience do vary among monitoring companies, it is good to do thorough research before asking for their services. Having a monitoring house alarm system is a sure way to secure your home from any form of dangers.
