How To Make Your Home Safe For Children

How To Make Your Home Safe For Children

Tips For Using Your Home Safe

Recently your friends have been talking about their home safes. The discussions are general, non-specific. You then notice that crime seems to be increasing; after all the economy is suffering and when the economy suffers crime does increase, but why should you buy one? Really what is the point of having a safe inside of your own house? Safes are something that banks have so what is the point of having one inside your home?

Safes give you the ability to protect items within your home that possess value, be it to you or to someone else.

Do you have a will? Where are you going to store those wedding photo proofs that are irreplaceable and everyone tells you need to be put in a safe place? Do you own any expensive jewelry, precious metals or gem stones? Are there small children with access to your possessions? If you answered yes to the last question then answer this one, do you own a gun? Are you sure they a) can’t find it and b) if they do that it’s not loaded?

These are all perfect examples of items to place in a safe. Any and all important documents like wills and insurance documents that will be critical and need to be accessed quickly are always great candidates for safes. Small valuable items like jewelry, photographic equipment or other small valuable items can be placed in a safe, and there are a variety of safes to fulfill these protection needs.

Safes come in varied sizes, fire protection ratings and organizational, drawer or compartment styles. Gun safes can come with both combination and key locks so that even if someone finds the key they may not be able to get past the combination or vice versa. The important thing is to analyze the items you feel are important to place within a safe and then do the proper research to determine what size and style are going to fulfill your needs. Safes can be bulky and definitely heavy so it is important to assess how you will be using it.

Equally important to assessing your needs is assessing the storage location for the safe. Make sure the location provides adequate space and accessibility. If purchasing a gun safe analyze first the why you own the gun, meaning are you a collector or is it for protection. If you are a collector your ability to access the gun quickly is less important that if you possess the gun for protection. In case you own it for protection you want the safe to be close by, not in a corner in the attic.

Home safes can be cost efficient based on your needs, typically averaging between $50 and $150. Some vendors offer warranties for limited time periods and your home insurance carrier may offer deductions on your premiums based on what the safe’s contents may be.

So now you’ve thought about it and analyzed your needs and made a purchase decision. Best of luck with your new safe.

Not every single break-in can be avoided, but you can prevent a large percentage if you take certain precautions.  The majority of burglars and other thieves are inexperienced and look for certain things when targeting a home.  By keeping your house off the target list, you can avoid a large number of burglaries and maximize your home security.  Keep your house safe by using common sense to make your home appear more difficult to enter.  Here are some common things that thieves look for when deciding on a house burglarize.

Vacant Homes.   The last thing burglars want is to be caught.  They prefer to enter your home without drawing any attention and leave as soon as they can with whatever valuable possessions they can get their hands on.  The intention is rarely to harm people, but rather to get anything that has value in a quick and easy manner without being seen.  If a house seems vacant, it becomes an automatic target for a burglar.  Whether you’re going to be gone just for the day or for an entire week, make sure that your home does not appear vacant.  Use automatic timers for lights and other electronics to make it seem as if there is activity in the home.  If you’re going to be gone for a longer period of time, make sure to stop the mail and paper services so they do not accumulate in your front yard.  This is an obvious sign that nobody is home and may not be returning anytime soon.  Making it seem like there is activity in the house will help ensure home security when you are away.

Easy entry points.  As has already been mentioned, burglars do not want to be seen at any cost.  Because of this, they will look for the easiest entry point they can.  Open doors or windows are often entered and quickly excited by a burglar, even if you are present in the home.  If you are in another room and the front door is left open, anybody could quickly come in, grab anything in sight, and leave again, all without you knowing.  Be sure that windows and doors are locked at all times if you are not in the same room.  This is recommended not only for the night time or when you are gone, but should be done twenty four hours a day.  Furthermore, make sure that all locks on your doors and windows are sturdy and well made.  Old locks and latches are often easily picked or broken with little effort.

Good hiding spots.   Keep your property well maintained by mowing your lawn and trimming bushes and trees on a regular basis.  If a burglar can easy move about your property without you seeing him, it makes it much easier to gain entry.  He can hide outside your home until finding the perfect opportunity to enter.  Make sure that all your main points of entry are well lit and can always be seen by you or surrounding neighbors.

Even if you follow all these steps, you are never going to be guaranteed 100% home security.  Combine a good home alarm system and these valuable tips for the best home security possible.

How To Reset Home Alarm System?
Does anyone know how to silence/reset the low battery beeping alarm on ADT home security systems?

Mine beeps continuously and it stops when I press any key on the key pad, but it beeps again like every 4 hours!! I had service with ADT for three years and a year ago I canceled it. I’ve been using the system and it barely started to do this about a month ago. It only displays a “Batt” next to “chime” w/no number next to it. I’ve checked the system battery and it’s fully charged, so are the wireless sensor batteries. Please help me, I hate waking up to turn it off!!! Thanks for any help!!
7 seconds ago – 3 days left to answer.

It is programed to fail – all you can do is have a real security company like Brinks come out and replace it. Even if you end the agreement with Brinks after 1yr I have never heard of their system having the same issues as the junk from ADT.

To prevent this from happening, covering the outlets with special covers is a good idea.

Also, be sure to keep all doors closed and locked that leads to the outside or steps. A small child could easily walk your way to the stairs and fall. If the steps are in an open environment to look for the possibility of installing a door to prevent children from approaching them.

What Is A Home Safety Assessment?
Child Protective Services Question?

Scenario: Young, single, unemployed mother with two children three years and one month of age-18. History financial deprivation, domestic violence (when the parents were together), household cleaning, and refers to supervision. The twins have set fire to two of their homes the past as a result his mother quit her job to watch them more closely. Twins are out of his home by police who think they were there at least 20 minutes. In addition, the owner is about to evict the family for not paying rent and wreck the apartment. What must be addressed as an initial safety assessment is done? What services the family could use to change the situation? What should be done if the family does not cooperate wit services necessary for safety?

Security issues are a big part especially the environment. Apparently it is easier for children to find matches with ease. Destruction may be because children are not supervised enough and destroy many things that pertain to housing apartment. Premises must be kept clean because it is a good environment for everyone. If the family is not paying the rent and destroy the house the owner must have some reimbursement for the cost of repairing the damage done and unpaid rent or any other electric or water bill. If the family does not cooperate with the services then they must be removed and brought to justice. You may remove children to foster homes so they can be cared for properly. The mother does not work do not supervise children well enough even though he quit his job. So children need attention much better.
