Bought a PC Wireless 4 Camera DVR Security Surveillance System from Ebay?

Just bought this system from ebay.Wondering if anyone knows how to setup the webcam server for remote monitoring.Looks like by the instructions that it was straight forward,but no luck.Any help?

mmm, not much to go on, but i’ll try.
I’m guessing there is a ‘webcam server’ setting in the menu that you already turned on, if not, well, i’ll really need to know what system it is before I can say anything usefully then.
But assuming there is, and you already turned it on as described in the instructions the place where it usually goes wrong is either:
-ports in your router are not opened for traffic
-ports on your router are not set up to to rout you to the dvr
for both thing you need to check witch port is used by the dvr, then go to the config page of your router and check under ‘virtual server’ or ‘address translation’ and check if those ports are routed to the dvr.

for anything more concrete i nee more info about what goes wrong/what system/type of connection you want (web interface or a installed program)

Trouble finding WEP passowrd on Macbook?

I am currently babysitting for one of my neighbors, and I brought my Macbook along to use while the baby is napping. I tried to access the Internet from my laptop, but the wireless network configured in this house requires a WEP Password.

The family also has a Macbook, which they left here on the table. I opened it up to look at the Network Settings and try to find the password.

Under System Preferences, I clicked on Networks. Making sure that the right network name was selected, I clicked the Advanced button. Again, with the right network selected, I clicked the Edit button. It opens a window with three different fields for “Network Name” “Security” and “Password.” The security is WEP Password and the password shows up encrypted by little dots. I clicked on the “Show Password” box at the bottrom, and the password is STILL encrypted, this time with asteriks!

Why can’t I see the password? How in the world do I find it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The password is hidden. That’s what makes it secure. It won’t display, because if it did, it wouldn’t be secure.

You’re going to have to ask the neighbor for the password. If it’s one of several different gateway setups, such as DSL, you might (might) be able to find the key printed underneath the case of the gateway. It will say either “ID” or “key.” Try using this string to see if it works.

The only other way you could do this is to hack into the setup page for the router/gateway, and reset the password from there. Of course, the router configuration utility may have a password also, in which case you still cannot do anything. And if you change the password, you will have to change it on all the computers in the network. I don’t recommend this suggestion I’ve just made.

More thinking: You could do a file search on the computers in the house to see if they’ve recorded the key/password. Another possibility (and I really don’t know for sure because I don’t know Macs well), is that there may be some sort of network configuration utility on the computers, that will record the network settings (encrypted) onto a floppy or USB storage device, allowing you to transfer these settings to your computer. This functionality exists in Windows, for instance.

How do I find out which ports are open on my network?

I am trying to use port forwarding to view security cameras over the internet. My camera system, using DHCP, has an IP address of 192.168.0.100. The data is set to come out of port 1026. The camera system is plugged into a hub with an IP address of 192.168.0.1 (set statically). That hub is, in turn, plugged into a DSL modem (which can also work as a Wireless Hub/DHCP server) with the internal address of 192.168.0.2 and an external address of 71.38.68.47. Internally, I can see all devices on the network whether I am plugged into the hub or have linked to the wireless modem. I have set port forwarding on the DSL modem to forward 192.168.0.100 port 1026 for both TCP and UDP protocols. It seems like I have done everything right. I have set-up a similar arrangement in the past with success. But currently, I cannot call the WAN IP address of the modem : port number of the cameras and get the picture. Maybe it is in how the modem and wired hup are linked. Appreciate any help.

On the *nix box in question type:
netstat -anp | grep LISTEN

and it’ll show you all the open ports.

From another box use the nmap program (find on Yahoo! search) to scan for open ports on your boxes.
