Locks And Door Knobs For Wood Doors And Face Plates

bamboo plug to fill old lock holes in exterior door jam…?

Hi! My amazing teen son installed a new front door, but measured wrong and didn’t line up the knob and dead bolt holes, so I’ll drill new ones, but want to first fill the old holes. I have a bamboo dowel which fits the existing holes. Is it too soft a wood to use? New screws will be sunk into the bamboo, one screw of each face plate will line up with a plug. Thank You for your assistance! (PS I can make other dowels with tree limbs) Thank You!

It would be better to use the same type of kiln died wood that the door jamb is made of so that the plug responds to temperature and humidity in the same fashion.
