Home Safety Advantage

Home Safety Advantage
Ugh I need help with math! Ten points! :D ?

The standard staircase, according to the National Association of Home Builders, has thirteen 8 and 1/4 inch risers and twelve 9inch treads. A 1992 proposal to increase safety on stairs by the Building Officials and Code Administrators suggested a new standard of sixteen 7in risers and fifteen 11in treads.

~At school we were given a staircase to measure and here is my information:
*There are 10 stairs
*They each have 12in treads
*The height of each is 7 and 1/2 in
*The slope of the stairs I measured is 0.65in
*The slope of the safe stairs is 0.63

3. Write a paragraph explaining why the new staircase model might increase safety. What are its advantages? disadvantages? Do you think the suggestion is a good idea?

*If this isn’t clear please feel free to ask questions because I really need help. The paragraph only has to be five sentences but for some reason I am having a really hard time.

Thanks for any help :D

when a stair are above 8-1/2″ in height and the tread is less than 9-1/2″ you feel like you are falling down them and mountain climbing up…
but if your stair height is under 6″ and/or you treads are longer than 18″ you start getting a very awkward and very inefficient walking experience.

your staircases are too similar to really have any major advantages or disadvantages… and from my experience your stair sounds like it is a safety stair built to meet the heights between floors. (typically stair makers measure your floor to floor and find out how many risers they need to make the stair as close to 7-1/2″ high and 11″ long…

i would check your measurements… the tread technically is calculated from the front of the stair to where the next riser is:
i.e…………___
……….___
…..___
___

if this is your stair the top of each stair may be 12″ in total length but
but only 11″ to where the next stair starts
as opposed to a stair like this:
……………….___
………….___|
…….___|
.___|
|
get it?

but if you must:
advantages are whatever advantages a safety stair gives you: easy to step on and down…

disadvantages:
must tear out the existing (and perfectly fine stair) and replace with expensive (& unnecessary) new stair
