Door Locks Insurance

UK Home contents insurance?
I am in the UK and have home contents insurance. My back external door is the responsibility of the Council, who i rent the house from.It is a very bad defective door, has a square type box lock on it and a big gap around the edges. where it could be prised open, it has been kicked in.
Would i still be covered with insurance if someone broke in via this door ? It is a shed type door.
I cant afford to replace the door myself.
Thanks.
Thanks everyone, i will send them a letter, they did come out in april last year, but said it was adequate, at the time i was waiting overa month and using a door bolt only to lock the door, they said this was adequate.
many thanks
You need to read the small print on your policy, look for minimum security requirements that might speify a certin type of lock, usuallly a 5 level mortice deadlock in addition to a normal lock.
Also check that you have not applied for any secruity discount that says you have said locks.
I would still nag the council, sending them a letter that you will hold them responsible for any loss that you incure should access to your home be gained through this inadquate door.
