Choosing The Right Gate Security System

Having a gate for your property can be one of the main aspects of your security. A good gate is definitely an excellent deterrent for would be intruders. There are many factors that go into choosing a gate for your property.

Firstly, you have to consider the size of the gate that you would like. The heavier and wider the gate you select, the more of an effect it will have on the type of motor you have to purchase, if you’re planning on having an automated gate. There are two different types of gates you can choose, a sliding or a swinging gate. A sliding gate will move sleekly across when it is being opened. This type of gate is popular, but only if there aren’t any obstructions in the way. If you’re on a slope, then it is more expensive and difficult to have a sliding gate. Any obstructions such as trees can hinder the placement of a sliding gate, so it would be best to use a swing gate. A swing gate opens and closes in a similar fashion to a door.

There are a few different materials you can choose from for your gate. Wood is easily the most popular choice because it is more cost effective and cheaper to buy and install. Unfortunately wood requires a lot of maintenance, and will need to be repainted regularly. It will also need to be re-varnished occasionally to protect it from rain and other aspects of the weather. Proper wood can be a lot heavier, and will therefore hinder the type of gate motor you buy.

Galvanized steel is a very popular material for a driveway gate. They are hardier and will require less maintenance, besides an intermittent sprucing of their paint job.

The next thing you need to consider is the gate motor for the automation of the opening and closing of the gate! All the other parts that keep your gate working need to be strong and able to handle the constant opening and closing of your gate. If you have a sliding gate, you need strong sliding wheels which will handle the continual opening and closing! With regards to the motor, you also need to purchase a strong, hardy one, as it will have to take the stress and weight of the gate. The better the motor, the longer it will last. You should always look into getting a gate motor that has the ability to be operated manually if there is a power failure. Some people like to get motors that sent off a reasonable alarm sound if the gate is left open. You can also choose whether or not your gate has an automation which makes it close automatically after a certain period of time. This prevents your gate being left open unattended if someone forgets to close it, and is a great security measure. Once your new gate is installed, it is best to install sensors which let the gate know not to close if there is a vehicle near it.
