How does a disc lock work?

I just purchased a bike and want to buy a kryptonite disc lock. Is that one of the better brands? It doesn’t have instructions on how to lock it…to be honest, I don’t know how. Is all I need is the disc lock? And how/what does it lock? I am getting a disc lock because that type of lock has been recommended to me a few times.

It clamps onto the disc, preventing the bike from being rolled away.
The disc lock will bump up against the fork tube and won’t allow the wheel to turn any further.

If you should use one without an alarm, put a reminder sticker next to your ignition switch, or on your key chain.
Many have forgotten the lock was in place, try to ride away and flip their bike when the lock hits the fork tubes.
It can be a little dangerous, but EXtrememly embarrassing when it happens.
